Greenwood Negus gym now open

Sunday 6th October saw the official opening of new boxing and fitness gym on Eastwood Road, Rayleigh. As its name suggests. the Greenwood Negus gym is a partnership between professional boxers Kevin Greenwood and Dominic Negus, who both have a rich history in the paid, unlicensed and bare knuckle ranks.

Greenwood (41) explained: "Over the last six months, we've put a huge amount of effort in to make this gym the best it can be. Now we've opened the doors, we're both looking forward to putting the hours in and helping people to reach their goals - whether that's with boxing or with their fitness generally."

Negus (54) said: "We've taken the time to get this gym just how we wanted it."

Notorious for a controversial bout against Olympic champion Audley Harrison at Wembley, which saw the end of his professional career, Negus admitted:

"I got involved in the silly things when I should have concentrated on my boxing career, and now I'm keen to make sure others don't go down the road I travelled."

The gym is a training base to Dylan Phoenix-Morrison (25) who turns over into the professional ranks after a stellar amateur career out of Kenton ABC, Newcastle.

"I'm coming in to take heads off," said Phoenix-Morrison. "With Dom's coaching and learning how to pick my shots, over the longer rounds with little gloves on, anyone is getting put away."

Negus enthused: "He's the first fighter that tickled my fancy for a while. He's going to be exciting - he can punch and he's dedicated."

Morrison will campaign at middleweight and makes makes his debut on November 9 at the Sunderland Live Arena.

As well as a busy gym schedule ahead, both Negus and Greenwood continue to make appearances inside the ring. Greenwood makes his next appearance on the bare knuckle circuit in Wolverhampton on November 9, while Negus boxes at charity event on November 17th at the York Hall.

The new fully-equipped gym is also home to the Cafe 401, which is open for the public to enjoy healthy, nutritious food and drinks while observing the training sessions next door. A range of classes are available every evening for members and non-members, while both Greenwood and Negus offer one-to-one coaching sessions.
